How we score tools
Every tool gets one primary category, so each ranking compares tools that do the same job. Within a category, we score each tool out of 100 on the rubric below. The total sets the tier.
The 100-point rubric
| Criterion | Points | Question |
|---|---|---|
| Job fit | 30 | Does it actually do the job well? |
| Ease / time-to-first-result | 15 | How fast do you get something useful? |
| Value | 15 | Price vs. alternatives |
| Momentum | 15 | Real adoption signals |
| Openness & portability | 10 | Can you take your work elsewhere? |
| Trust & maturity | 10 | Will it be here next year? |
| Builder/gamer bonus | 5 | Plays well with your stack |
| Total | 100 |

Rules
- Sponsors can't buy points. Featured placements are clearly labeled and kept separate from the tier list.
- Every score keeps a changelog, shown on each tool's page.
- Tools get re-scored on major updates, and the top 5 per category are re-checked monthly.
- New tools carry a provisional score until they've been checked for 30 days.
- No source, no listing. Every tool needs a verified, live official URL.
Where the scores stand today
The launch scores (Oct 18, 2026) are initial editorial estimates. They come from public information (official sites, docs, adoption signals), not hands-on testing. Each official URL was checked as live on that date. Pricing was checked against official vendor pricing pages on Oct 18, 2026 where possible; each tool page says whether its pricing is verified (with the date and link) or still unverified. Standardized hands-on category tests and human spot-checks of the top picks will replace these estimates over the coming weeks, and each change will show in the tool's changelog.
